What It Is

Pigmented lesion treatment using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) targets unwanted sun damage, freckles, age spots, and uneven pigmentation caused by UV exposure, hormones, or natural aging.
The LUVO LUCENT IPL system uses a range of specialized filters to deliver precise pulses of light into the skin, breaking up excess pigment so it can naturally fade and lift away — revealing clearer, brighter, more even-toned skin.

Benefits

  • Reduces freckles, sunspots, and age spots
  • Improves uneven tone and discoloration
  • Softens pigmentation caused by sun exposure or photoaging
  • Helps manage melasma (with proper treatment planning)
  • Brightens dull, tired-looking skin
  • Boosts overall clarity and radiance
  • Minimal downtime, non-invasive, and safe for most skin types
  • Treats face, chest, hands, arms, and body

Who It’s For

IPL for pigmented lesions is ideal if you:

  • Have sunspots, freckles, or pigmentation from UV exposure
  • Want a more even, brighter complexion
  • Have photoaged skin or brown patches that darken with sun
  • Experience pigmentation changes from aging or hormones
  • Want results without aggressive treatments or downtime
  • Are a lighter to medium skin tone (Fitzpatrick I–III typically respond best)

A consultation ensures the safest, most effective treatment plan — especially for melasma or deeper pigment concerns.

What to Expect

  •  We begin with a skin assessment and review of your pigmentation concerns
  • The LUVO LUCENT handpiece delivers quick, bright pulses of light to the targeted areas
  • You may feel a warm “snap,” similar to an elastic flick — very tolerable
  • Areas with pigment often darken temporarily after treatment
  • The session is quick, comfortable, and requires minimal downtime

Treatment Time: 10–30 minutes depending on the area
Sessions Needed: Typically 3–6 sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart

Results Timeline

  • First 24–72 hours: Pigment may darken — this is normal
  • Days 3–10: Darkened spots begin to flake or lift away naturally
  • 2–3 weeks: Skin looks brighter, clearer, more even
  • 3–6 treatments: Significant improvement in pigmentation and photoaging
  • Ongoing: Skin continues to improve as collagen and cell turnover increase

Most clients report visibly clearer, younger-looking skin within the first few sessions.

Contraindications

IPL for pigmented lesions may not be suitable if you have:

  • Recent sun exposure or tanning (including self-tanner)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (melasma can worsen with hormones)
  • Photosensitizing medications
  • Active skin infections or open wounds
  • Very dark skin tones (risk of pigmentation changes)
  • A history of keloids or abnormal scarring
  • Inflammatory skin conditions in the area

We’ll assess your skin during your consultation for a safe, effective treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at dermadefined@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Pigmented lesions include dark spots caused by sun damage, aging, hormones, or acne scarring — such as sun spots, age spots, and hyperpigmentation.

IPL targets excess pigment in the skin with light energy, which breaks the pigment apart so the body can naturally remove it, gradually fading dark spots.

Many clients see improvement in 1–3 treatments, though stubborn pigmentation may require additional sessions depending on depth and skin type.

Pigmented areas may temporarily darken and look like coffee grounds before flaking off naturally within 5–10 days. This is a normal part of the healing process.

IPL is very effective for lighter skin tones with darker pigment. A complimentary consultation is required to determine safety, settings, and expected results for your skin.
